Ten minutes’ drive from the town of Sugarcreek in Ohio’s Amish country, the women’s residence of Operation 6:12 is surrounded by farmland.  This relative isolation, offset by the beauty of God’s creation, forms an ideal backdrop for women who struggle with addictions, depression, anxiety, abuse, broken relationships, and other forms of brokenness to reconnect with God, with themselves, and with a sisterhood of like-minded women.

The women’s facility houses a maximum of ten women who live together as a family. They share the domestic duties of cooking, baking, cleaning, and maintaining the yard while working on their healing. Women from the community frequently join their Bible studies, teach cooking, natural remedies, or introduce craft projects.

While the biweekly work rotation forms an important part of the recovery process, it is also important to do “normal” things like going out for meals or coffee, watching an inspiring movie in the cinema, visiting the theatre, or going swimming in one of the local ponds. Separation is useful in order to focus on healing, but successful integration back into society is an objective that is kept in mind from the very beginning.
